Hand Me Downs...this has been my struggle, my fear, my worry (can you hear the drama in my voice...ha ha ha:).
I have this issue with second children, third children, fourth children, etc...especially if they are the same gender. They need their own things - their own clothes, their own books, their own toys, something that is their own.
It started with the nursery. Veronica had her own nursery...all her own bedding, new theme, different colors, etc...
Clothes...ahhhhh, I lucked out!!! Isabella was born in June, Veronica in September. This small 3 month difference meant that their clothes/sizes did not match up season wise. For instance all of Isabella's 18-24 month clothes were winter clothes. Veronica needed summer clothes in 18-24...this meant she needed all new clothes...YEAH:)
But now the time has come. Veronica is still wearing 18-24 months clothes...Isabella's 18-24 months clothes are very fall appropriate. And once we move into the 2T's...there's no more excuses...Veronica will be able to wear all of her big sister's hand me downs.
So about 2 weeks ago, I felt a bit weird about this. I felt a slight need to rush out and get her all of her own things (which she actually does have a few of her 'own' things...I just thought she should have more:). But than I surveyed the closet and saw the massive excess of clothing. And as I went through, I saw that Veronica has her own, brand new clothes for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Xmas, V-day, and Easter...Bry agreed with me that it was totally understandable that I would want her to have her own 'holiday wear':)
Than I started to think about how much time I have spent shopping for the girls in the past...granted I do get some kick butt deals (like their beautiful matching reversible brown winter jackets that I got for $6.00/each at Target last winter), but the amount of time I ahve spent in the past shopping and searching for that ultimate 75% off deal is ridiculous. Some would argue that the amount of clothing my children have had in the past (even though the majority of it is bought at some rockin' sale prices) is sinful.
What can I say, I'm a work in progress:) There is part of me that will always always love shopping for the girls. But it's time for a change:)
And I have to say, it has been rather adorable to see my baby V in some of her big sissy's old clothes. They do look so much alike, so there is the nostalgia...but there also so different that the clothes are taking on a whole ne personality with Veronica:) Dare I say it...I'm enjoying the hand me downs:) Enjoy the pic of 'em:)

I LOVE hand-me-downs! Glad you're having a change of mind...your girls will know who they are as individuals, with or without different outfits!
