Isabella turned the big 5 on June 18th! Wow...5! I've always heard that it is one of those weepier of parenting moments (if you're a weepy parent), but I was really surprised about how weepy it was for me! Must just be something about 5!
We had a wonderful 5th birthday for Isabella! It kind of turned into a birthday week, doing special things the days leading up to her birthday. On Monday we went to the zoo in Fargo, on Tuesday we went to the CanadInn Water Park, on Wednesday we played at the mall and Isabella got to pick out a birthday dress all by herself!
Thursday, June 18th was the BIG DAY and Isabella and I had a special date...something she had been wanting to do for a VERY long time...a big girl pedicure! We dropped Veronica with Debbie, who had some special birthday flowers for Isabella and than grabbed coffee and headed off to Foxy Nails for Isabella's pedicure! Isabella has had her nails and toes painted before, but she's never 'put them in the water' as she says. She got her big girl pedicure, getting her feet soaked, clipped, rubbed with lotion, and scrubbed (we discovered she has the same ticklish feet as Mommy:). She picked out a gold yellow for her toes. Than an extra suprise, she got to have her nails painted and they put a special flower on her thumb! Isabella was in heaven...she absolutely loved it! All the workers wished her a Happy Birthday and she got lots of smiles from all the people getting their nails done! It was so fun!
We had lunch at Happy Joe's with all of our buddies and when Daddy got home from work, he had more flowers for the birthday girl!!!!
That night we had Isabella's Barbie pool party and celebrated with all of our EGF family and very special friends! We all love having everyone together to celebrate! The kids swam (despite the moody weather), enjoyed bubbles and the lawn toys, and at some delicious Barbie cake!
Isabella's friends honored Isabella's birthday with very generous donations to the Calvary Lutheran Church Honduras Mission and the Jennifer Lukach Family...each cause received over $100 - WOW!!!! Our EGF family and friends come out in full force to support our gift tradition and it means SO MUCH TO US!!!! You guys are the BEST! Normally we sit down as a family to open the cards together after everyone leaves, but this time Isabella decided that she would like to open them at the party! As she opened each card she would say, "Yeah, more money for Jennifer Lukach"!!!
Isabella delivered the money to Jen first hand and it was such a precious moment to share with my daughter. As we were walking down the street to Jen's house, Isabella was skipping and singing, "Yeah, money for Jennifer Lukach's sick, money for Jennifer Lukach's sick". Last year we started having her bring her birthday money to church or to wherever it is going which has helped her to understand it all the more, it's neat!
A bonus part of the birthday party was that cousin Katie slept over! After all of our friends left, Katie, Isabella, and Veronica got pj's on, had snacks and watched "Bolt". Than they had their first sleep over with all 3 of them in the same room together. Guess who was the last one to fall asleep - VERONICA!!!! She just kept talking and talking - "Katie how you like your swim class? Katie, what you do at swim class? Katie, you have fun at swim class?".
The next morning the girls did a punch of crafts and arts and than we headed outside for more swimming, which seemed to turn into a second bday party when Debbie, Isabe, Tatum, and Bryn came by!
That night, Grandma Grace came over and Isabella opened her gifts from Grandma and Mom and Dad. We like to do her gifts with just the family. It was definitely a Barbie themed bday! Isabella got the Disney Prince Boy Barbie Dolls which went great with the boy BArbie Nana got Isabella for her bday and Grandma got Isabella a couple of different Barbies (including a groovy Sea World Barbie) and a big book of about 10 different BArbie stories, which we'd read all of by the next day! Isabella was very excited about her new surprises!
And so her 5th birthday came to an end, what a beautiful little lady our Isabella has grown to be! Her beauty radiates from a giving and golden heart within that teaches me something new every day, her energy keeps her going for endless adventures, and her love for music, dance, and theater keeps our home filled with songs and sunshine every day.
Isabella, how has it happened? What has happened to that beady eyed, purple faced, skinny little baby who captured my heart at first glance? Where has the little baby that would only nap when sleeping with Mom or Dad gone? You sat, crawled, and walked early...I should have known than what a busy, adventurous, on the go little girl you would grow to be! Your birthday always reminds me of the moment in my life where I felt I truly discovered what I was meant to be - a Momma! What happiness!
You are JOY precious girl, you are pure JOY! We love you so much!
