Scooby Dooby Doo...a big Happy Birthday to you Veronica Grace Elizabeth!!! Friday night we had our family birthday celebration for Veronica with Daddy home, Grandma and Papa, Auntie Opie, Uncle Danny, and Big Cousin Katie!!!
Earlier in the week I had presented Veronica with three options for her bday cake for the party - Dora, Scooby, or Princesses. This situation presents yet another difference between V and Isabella. Veronica is not a tv watcher at all. By the age of 20 months Isabella was a tv fanatic, asking regularly for 'rocket' (Little Einsteins) and Dora. I attribute this to 3 things...
1. Personality...Isabella just plain loves movies and tv, just like her Daddy and her Great Grandma Hanson. They are all huge movie buffs. So I think it's part of her 'nature'.
2. Mom's fault:) Ha ha! I became pregnant with Veronica when Isabella was 18 months old and cartoons became our friend during my fatigue filled first trimester.
3. Dad's fault:) During the year that Isabella was one, I worked all day on Saturdays while Daddy and Isabella hung out...that was when cartoons were first introduced:)
Anyhow...for whatever reason, Veronica has never been into tv or ever asks to watch it. The only thing she asks for is "I watcha sue-bee (scooby)" right before bedtime. This has became a bit of a bed time tradition during the end of the summer/early fall when Daddy's travel schedule was heavy. The girls watch a scooby doo before we start the bedtime routine while I ready things for the next day. Not being a total tv nut, means Veronica hasn't gone through phases where she's really into something - Dora, Elmo, etc...Scooby is as close as it gets:)
This presented a bit of a challenge for my 'theme-y' nature when it came to party planning. V does know who Dora is because we have many Dora toys and she likes them. She's a bit into the princess/Barbie thing right now following the lead of her big sis, and there's our bedtime buddy, Scooby Doo:)
So when I presented the options Tues morning, V immediately picked Dora...no hesitation. When we got home from Chuck E Cheese on Tues night, we went right to Target to order her cake. As I was looking for the Dora pictures, Veronica was flipping through one of the books of cake options. I found the Dora cake, showed it to her and said, "Ok here's what your Dora cake will be". Veronica told me, "No, no Dora cake, I want sue-bee". Ok, so I show her the Scooby option. No she doesn't want scooby. The next 10 minutes were a back and forth of her picking Mickey Mouse, Scooby, Dora, Scooby, Princess, Scooby, etc...as she flipped through the book. What was I thinking????? I had to go ahead and present her with choices...what a dumb idea...ha ha ha:)
Finally, we decided on Scooby. It was the one she kept going back to the most, and when I finally 'laid down the law' and told her we had to go home, Scooby was the cake she picked:)
So we had a Scooby party last night!!! Complete with little Scooby ears for Veronica and Scooby masks for the guests:) They were a riot!!! Veronica was very very very excited about her cake and the balloons and her Scooby ears. When Papa came through the door, she exclaimed, "Looka me, looka me Papa, looka my sue-bee ears". She had fun showing off her newest skill -galloping all over the house and rolling over her balloons, saying "Watch this Papa, watch this Papa"...we're very into Papa right now:)
Veronica was so darn CUTE during the singing of the bday song! She started off singing it with us and swayed back and forth with the cutest darn smile I've ever seen! And she attempted to blow the candles out, but it was a pretty weak blow, so her big cousin and sissy helped her out.
Grandma Grace as always broke the no present rule and Veronica enjoyed opening up a new baby doll and a Little People camping set. Veronica is very into babies, as she pulled the paper back and started to see what the gift was, she leaned in close to the box and said, "Ohhhh baby"! She carried her baby around the rest of the night and if anyone tried to touch it, would say, "No, no toucha my baby":)
Veronica enjoyed playing with Katie and Isabella in her bedroom and would come running down the hall out of her room and say to us, "I playing", than run back to her room, than come out and say "I playing with Katie", than run back and so on! She was very excited to play with the big girls!!!
It was a super celebration!!!!
Our Chuck E Cheese day on Tuesday was great too!!! Veronica headed to Fargo in a brand new bday dress that had just arrived in the mail from Uncle Sammie and Auntie Monica! When I told her we were going to CEC, she was VERY EXCITED and on the car ride kept saying, "I wanta eat pizza, Chuck E Cheese, Fa-go". She knew what was up:) We pulled into the parking lot and the excitement grew, "Pizza, Chuck E...yeah". She second I unstrapped her carseat it was a whole different ball game..."Hold you, hold you" (which means hold me) in her little baby voice she said over and over. Veronica is not too sure about the actual Chuck E character:) However he wasn't around at 11 a.m. on a Tuesday, so that worked great:)
CEC had an extra bday cake and even gave us some party hats so we were ready to celebrate! Our buddies, Tami and Ava happened to be in Fargo that day as well, so they joined the celebration which made it extra special!!! They are very special friends to us:) What a blessing!!! Pizza was eaten and a million tokens were used! Veronica particularly enjoys the game where you squirt water at a boat to make it race up and she loves all the little car rides!
When it was said and done, we were at CEC from 11:15 - 3...whew!!! On the way out, a worker stopped us and said, "Hang on, I'm about to get a bunch of tickets for you guys"...she was playing a game that she apparently 'knew how to work' and when it was said and done, got over 300 tickets for us! Wow...how nice:)
